Fundsupermart.com Malaysia (FSM) held its annual flagship event, UnitTrust Investment Fair: What & Where to Invest in 2018 at the Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre on 27 January 2018. At the unit trust investment fair, nine industry experts provided investment insights on various investment topics, risks and opportunities, investment strategies and outlook for the year while fourteen fund houses participated and exhibited their financial products to visitors of the fair.
Wong Weiyi, the General Manager of Fundsupermart.com Malaysia welcomed the crowd by sharing the key investment themes and 2018 outlook. He explained, “Following a year of accelerating economic growth in 2017, we expect global economic growth to accelerate in 2018 to reach 3.6%.” He also added that with both developed and developing economies set for growth in 2018 – we expect to see economic expansion accelerate throughout the year, albeit at varying paces for different regions.
With regards to the investment themes, Weiyi mentioned that, “As expected in 2017, we bade farewell to and saw the end of an earnings recession and was welcomed by strong earnings growth in 2017 across the board for the markets under our coverage. After enjoying strong earnings growth in 2017 that took place after an ‘earnings recession’ in 2015 and 2016, the developed markets of US and Europe are each expected to post 10% and 9% earnings growth in 2018.”
Outside of the developed markets, earnings momentum has been fairly strong in Asia ex Japan and the Emerging markets, with positive earnings revisions being seen for both 2018 and 2019. Asia ex Japan and Emerging markets are expected to deliver strong earnings growth and positive earnings revisions in 2018. The likes of China, Korea, Singapore and Taiwan are the bright spots in the region while IT and financial sectors are expected to be the major contributors to the earnings upgrades.
Weiyi ended his speech with Fundsupermart’s house view for 2018. He said, “We will be overweighting equities relative to bonds in 2018. Given the stronger earnings forecasts we believe that equities warrant an overweight in 2018. However, if investors believe equities market are reaching a peak, investors are recommended to look into the bond segment. For investors who are also wary on constructing and managing their own portfolio, FSM’s Managed Portfolio would be recommended as it offers five different portfolios catering for investors with different risk appetite.” The FSM research team continues to favour Asia ex-Japan and Global Emerging Markets equities as the attractive valuation narrative on these markets are still intact.
As for the bond market, the team expects the fixed income landscape to be lively in 2018, which should provide us with tactical opportunities. While there is currently a lack of opportunities in the fixed income space that are attractive from a risk-return basis, we maintain that fixed income remains an integral and relevant part of an investor’s portfolio, and should be seen as a portfolio stabilizer.
The Unit Trust Investment Fair: What & Where to Invest in 2018 which is FSM’s annual flagship event, provides a good opportunity for investors to meet fund experts in one single place and listen to their views as well as discover the various types of unit trusts available that match their objectives, risk appetites and time horizons.где продвинутьцены на
