SUBANG JAYA, 13 September 2019 – Digi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd (Digi) has rolled out MY Digital SME, a programme that aims to equip small and medium enterprises (SMEs) with tools and skills that will help give their businesses an online presence, enabling them for growth beyond the Malaysian borders.

Held in collaboration with SME Corp, Mahir Digital Bersama Google, AVANA Facebook Commerce, REV Asia and Shopee, the programme is designed to be a hands-on workshop whereby upon completion of the full-day workshop, business owners and entrepreneurs can expect to create an online presence for their business, achieving the first step in digitalising their business.

To date, more than 500 local business owners and entrepreneurs have benefited from the first two workshops held in Ipoh, Perak and Kota Bahru, Kelantan.

With two more workshops in the pipeline, Digi’s Chief Business Officer, Eugene Teh believes that MY Digital SME will be able to empower over 1000 Malaysian SMEs to digitalise their business, further fostering digital growth in the SME segment.

“Going digital unlocks a whole host of opportunities for SMEs and helps grow the business. To compete in today’s digital economy, the question is not why SMEs should digitalise their business, but how – and this appears to be the stumbling block for many SMEs. So, one of the reasons that motivated us to run this programme, free of charge, is to help SMEs take the guesswork out of going digital in doing business. Also, while there are many seminars for SMEs that talk about the benefits of going digital, few provide the practical steps to actually get businesses online.”

Eugene Teh, Digi’s Chief Business Officer

Many of the business owners and entrepreneurs who participated in the MY Digital SME workshop have kick-started their digital journey simply by establishing an online presence for their businesses. What this demonstrates is that digital transformation does not have to be a daunting process.

“It is important to approach things one step at a time, and we are proud of these businesses that have taken their first step in digitalising their businesses through our workshop. We hope to continue to be their trusted digital partner guiding them in their digital journey.”

Banking on SME Corp’s vast network and database of SMEs throughout the country, the support from the partners have resulted in a holistic programme that aims to cover all aspects of powering up a business digitally.

“Together with our partners, we have formulated a programme containing practical modules, tutorials and insights that have proven to be effective in helping SMEs bridge the digital gap, connecting them to what matters most – their customers.”

Mahir Digital Bersama Google is sharing best practices on how to make your business stand out on Google Search and Maps; AVANA Facebook Commerce is conducting a workshop on how business owners can engage effectively with customers on social media; REV Asia is presenting on content marketing and amplifying brand presence; and Shopee is providing an introduction to e-commerce via their platform.

Participants get to also learn from Digi experts on the benefits of digital transformation for businesses, and where to begin. The session highlights solutions that are readily available for companies to explore that will help to boost the productivity and efficiency of their business.

The remaining MY Digital SME workshops in the country will be held in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah (21 September) and Kuching, Sarawak (5 October).
