BINTULU, 17 September 2019 – It is highly important for university students especially in this period of time to have good financial literacy and management during and after their studies to ensure financial security in the future.
Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs and Alumni of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Professor Dr Mohd Roslan Sulaiman said university students have to uphold their responsibility as an informed and resourceful citizen especially in strengthening their financial standing whether within or outside of the campus.
“Not only to produce university students who are knowledgeable in their respective fields of study but also able to be entrepreneurial and experts in financial management,” he said at the closing ceremony of Program Siswa Celik Wang 2.0 (Zon Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan) organised by Bahagian Mahasiswa Holistik Kementerian Pendidikan Malaysia (KPM), Pusat Kokurikulum dan Pembangunan Pelajar UPM, and UPM Bintulu Campus (UPMKB) at Dewan Sri Kenyalang UPMKB.
The Campus Director of UPMKB, Professor Dr Bujang Kim Huat said UPM fully supports the efforts of the Ministry of Education to increase the financial literacy among university students.
With the theme of ‘Kepimpinan Kewangan Peneraju Mahasiswa Gemilang’, the program covers the basics of finance such as financial planning and the skills to acquire income as well as the right mental preparation in overcoming any possibilities in their future careers.
Amy Seok, the founder and CEO of Money Compass and ULearnMoney was invited as one of the speakers for the program. In line with the objectives of the program, ULearnMoney, an online financial literacy platform, aims to provide financial education for young millennials and assist them to respond to immediate financial challenges, questions and doubts.
