KUALA LUMPUR, 27 September 2019 – Professor Rajah Rasiah, a renowned economist and Distinguished Professor of Economics at the Asia-Europe Institute of University of Malaya was named as a Distinguished Fellow at the Institute of Capital Market Research Malaysia (ICMR).
In tandem with ICMR’s larger goal to form strategic partnerships and promote knowledge transfer between experts from industry, policymakers, and academia, a Distinguished and Visiting Fellows programme was established for these experts to lend their expertise in areas of research which can benefit the overall capital market development for Malaysia.
Dr. Rajah received his doctorate in Economics from Cambridge University and was previously appointed as a Rajawali fellow at Harvard University in 2014, and has also served in various advisory, professorial, and research positions at Zhejiang University, Oxford University, Cambridge University, UNIMAS, Lahore School of Economics, and more. His scholarly work is recognised internationally, where he was commissioned on several policy-oriented reports by international organisations such as the World Bank, UNESCO and Asian Development Bank (ADB).
Dr. Rajah worked extensively on multiple disciplinary fields related to technological innovation and economic development, which include entrepreneurship, innovation financing and Industry 4.0. During his tenure as a Distinguished Fellow at ICMR, he will leverage on his knowledge and networks to assist the institute to deliver more systemic and inter-disciplinary insights for their research work.

Professor Rajah is the 2014 recipient of the Celso Furtado prize from the World Academy of Sciences for advancing the frontiers of Social Science (Economics) thought. In 2017, he was appointed a Distinguished Professor in Economics by the Ministry of Higher Education of Malaysia, and in 2018 he was awarded the Merdeka (Independence) Award.
