PENANG, 10 October 2019 – The MALAYSIA SME® Congress 2019 opened its doors to some 500 business owners, entrepreneurs, maverick start-ups and future business leaders today. Held at the Olive Tree Hotel in Bayan Lepas, it was a day of fun, learning and networking.
The theme ‘Progressing into Growth’ was particularly apt, and was one which described very well the underlying ambitions of business in general.
For the first time ever, the MALAYSIA SME® Congress 2019 included three international entrepreneur-speakers namely, Mr. Tristan Wright, founder of Evolve To Grow; Mr. Harry Sanders, founder of StudioHawk; and former Olympian Ms Inga Stasiulionyte, founder of Ofounders.
In the opening address of Wayne Lim, Group CEO and Group Chief Editor of the MALAYSIA SME® Media Group to the participants, he highlighted the ever challenging business environment that MSME businesses are facing.
He also reviewed a mega activity that MALAYSIA SME® Media Group is working on with many partners to not just promote but generate sales for micro businesses. He went into the nuts and bolts of the MSME 2020 Festival, a five days festival scheduled to begin on July 1, 2020, which is in collaboration with Qu Exchange, a MSME sharing economy exchange that has recently launched a new campaign KONGSI to support the micro and small businesses.
Also present at the Congress was Guest of Honour, SME Corporation Malaysia Chairman Yang Berbahagia Dato’ Seri Syed Hussein Al Habshee, who gave the keynote address at the commencement of the Congress in the morning.
Yang Berbahagia Dato’ Seri Syed Hussein Al Habshee noted the importance of the MSME sector that assumes a crucial role in the Malaysian economy. MSMEs, he said, contributed to 38.3% of the overall GDP in 2018, with the figure projected to rise to 41% by 2020. MSMEs account for 98.5% of the total business establishments in the country, and employ two-thirds of all workers throughout the nation.
The Congress proved to be a grand success and, for the MSME entrepreneurs, it was a really inspiring day of new vistas and fresh perspectives.
