SHAH ALAM, 8 January 2020 – Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with World Startup Festival (WSF), a global entrepreneurship platform from the USA, to strengthen the capacity of UiTM and youth entrepreneurship in the region.
Through this MOU, UiTM intends to enrich the global acceleration of its entrepreneurship program, anchored by the Faculty of Business and Management which offers BBA (Hons) in Entrepreneurship that allows the students to identify and evaluate viable business opportunities, secure market resources and mobilize personnel.
“Partnership with World Startup Festival is a significant strategy, which will set a new landmark for the students and lecturers to access the global information and tools that they need to make a difference, find their own path and contribute actively to the society and the nation,” said the Vice Chancellor, Emeritus Professor Datuk Ir. Dr. Mohd Azraai Kassim during his welcoming speech.
The MOU will serve as a platform to advance the university entrepreneurship programs in the area of students and entrepreneurship development, startup linkages, venture buildings and regional entrepreneurship exchanges in the pursuit of fulfilling the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) pertaining to partnership, youth and entrepreneurship.
“Through WSF modules and Entrepreneurs Bootcamps within UiTM campuses nationwide, we are confident we could add on to the value chain of the entrepreneur ecosystem in Malaysia, nurturing the grassroots of the nation,” said Udesh Chaskar, the Director of WSF Asia.
Mohd Azraai also believes that the MOU will open opportunities for the university to collaborate with WSF’s partners like the Organisation for Economic Corporation Development (OECD) and the Commonwealth Youth Council (CYC), to foster regional startup champions that can empower the economy through digitization and innovations.
