SUBANG JAYA,10 January2020 – A total of 70 award recipients were feted in grand style at the Platinum Business Awards 2019 Presentation and Gala Night organised by the SME Association of Malaysia at the Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre.
At the Platinum Business Awards 2019 Guest-of-Honour Minister of Entrepreneur Development Y.B. Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan bin Yusof presented pewter trophies and certificates to the award recipients. This year we witnessed 80% of new recipients, with some of them demonstrated excellent performance in their own fields.
Now in its 18th consecutive year, the awards programme is noted for its stringent selection process and carries the tagline ‘Legacy and Integrity,’ garnering a strong following among SMEs and the business community.
Nominees are judged on 5 core evaluation criteria – business; company philosophies; products, services and markets; operations and technologies; and financial performance – and the results independently-audited by Kreston John & Gan. The final list of winners was examined and approved by the Board of Selection, which was chaired by Tan Sri Dato’ Dr Michael Yeoh.
The 2019 awards theme ‘The Next SMEs’ expresses the revolutionary ideals of progressiveness, futurism and disruption. Change is the only constant, with evolution as the product. We believe that the dynamics of change bring about innovative, progressive, and forward-looking companies that thrive in the era of Industry 4.0 and new global trade order.
The Association’s National President Datuk Michael Kang, in his speech, appealed to SMEs in the audience to contribute productively to nation-building. He urged the SMEs to utilize various initiatives provided by the Government, along its efforts to encourage transformation of SMEs towards Industry 4.0 and to boost SME contribution to the GDP from the present 38% to 50% by 2030.
He also elaborated on the role of the Association as a delivery partner in the implementation of strategic government policies relating to SMEs, serving as a link between SME grassroots and the new Government to effectively channel policy deliverables to targeted beneficiaries.
The PBA2019 Organising Chairman, Mr Alan Tan, urged the award recipients not to underrate the hidden power within, but to uncover their ability and talents. He believed that Malaysian SMEs could offer a great deal to the world.
Over 1,000 guests from the business sector, Government agencies, major chambers of commerce, trade associations, and foreign embassies attended the event.
