KUALA LUMPUR, 17 March 2020 – All 60 Tesco Stores (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd as well as its home grocery shopping platform, Tesco Online will remain open for business during the government-mandated Movement Restriction Order from 18th to 31st March 2020.
Tesco Chief Executive Officer, Paul Ritchie assures customers that Tesco has sufficient stocks and continue to replenish essential products in its stores to meet demand during this period or uncertainties brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic.
He said that the stores have been much busier than normal, as many customers stocking up on everyday items. Although customers may find a few items are unavailable due to high demand, he would like to reassure all their customers that new stock is arriving all the time and our amazing colleagues are working around the clock to fill the shelves in our stores as quickly as they can.
He added that the management is also working closely with our suppliers to maintain the supply of all key products especially fresh and frozen foods, grocery and essential non-food items. They ask customers to shop as they normally would and buy only what they and their family needs.
He also claims that he understand the concern but buying more than needed can sometimes mean that others are left without. There is enough for everyone if everyone works together
Ritchie also encourages customers to use the Scan & Shop app that was just launched last month when grocery shopping. The app, which can be downloaded for free at Google Play Store and the App Store, enables customers to keep track of their spending as they can scan the items themselves while shopping in Tesco stores.
Once done, customers can go directly to the Self-Service Checkout Counters or Cashier Counters, provide the app-generated barcode and pay without the need of removing any of the items from their baskets or trolleys and without the need for a cashier to scan their items. Through this, customers can still practice social distancing while in stores.
The Scan & Shop is available at all Tesco stores nationwide. To learn more, visit https://www.tesco.com.my/Highlights/Campaigns/Scan-Shop/HighlightDetails/
Customers may also shop for their needs via Tesco Online or shop via Happyfresh. Tesco has however imposed a temporary quantity limit to a maximum of three (3) units of each item on Tesco Online purchases to maintain efficiency in delivering and serving customers.
Tesco continues to work with the health authorities in undertaking necessary measures to ensure the health and safety of all colleagues and customers in stores as well as online. These measures include regularly disinfecting its trolleys, check-out counters, delivery trays, equipment and all high traffic areas. All Tesco colleagues have also been trained to practice good hygiene routines.
