KUALA LUMPUR, 23 March 2020 – Members of the Life Insurance Association of Malaysia (LIAM), Persatuan Insurans Am Malaysia (PIAM) and the Malaysian Takaful Association (MTA) have taken proactive steps to ensure that insurance and takaful services (essential services) continue to be available to customers during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period from 18 March to 31 March 2020.
In support of the Government’s effort to curb the spread of COVID-19 by practising social distancing and the advice to all Malaysians to stay at home, insurance companies and Takaful operators have reviewed the opening hours of their branch offices nationwide.
Some companies are temporarily closing the operation of their branch offices while some have shortened their opening hours. Nevertheless, insurance companies and Takaful operators remain committed to ensure that all aspects of insurance protection to policyholders/certificate holders are not affected during this period.
Insurance companies and Takaful operators will continue to issue guarantee letters, process claims and renew policies during the MCO period.
Policyholders/certificate holders and the general public are strongly encouraged to communicate with the insurance companies or Takaful operators through digital platforms such as email, customer hotline, customer portal, Facebook, direct distribution channels and utilise epayment channels for payment of premiums to minimise face-to-face interaction during this period.
Hence, the insurance industry would like to assure policyholders/certificate holders that insurance companies and Takaful operators remain committed to ensure that all core services to policyholders/certificate holders are available during this period.
