KUALA LUMPUR – CTOS, Malaysia’s leading credit reporting agency, is offering the public a 60-day free access to CTOS SecureID, a fraud protection and credit monitoring service. The offer comes in the wake of a marked increase in cybercrime.
“Cybersecurity Malaysia reported an 82.5% in cybercrime incidents between March 18th and April 18th this year, compared to the same time period last year” explained Dennis Martin, Group CEO of CTOS. “In view of this, we are providing free access to CTOS SecureID for 60-day period to combat the growing problem of identity theft, fraud and scams.”
Consumers who subscribe to the CTOS SecureID service will get fraud alerts, credit reports and dark web monitoring and protection included in their free trial. The fraud alerts consist of notifications on new credit applications, credit limit changes, change of address and closure of credit facilities, while the MYCTOS Score report is a comprehensive report that allows consumers to better understand their credit standing.
Dark Web monitoring is the first of its kind by a credit reporting agency in South East Asia and provides alerts about personal information found on the dark web. This enables consumers to be more proactive instead of reactive in safeguarding their identity and protecting their credit health.
Data recently released by the “4iQ 2020 Identity Breach Report” shows that over 18 billion identity records are available on the dark web, of which Asia is the region that is responsible for 34.7% of global data breaches in 2019, second only to North America, which saw 38.8% of the total.
In-depth analysis by 4iQ showed that the data breaches taking place also contains Personally Identifiable Information (PII) beyond just account credentials. While passwords can be easily changed, many identity attributes are permanent. This new data is being combined with old data breaches to provide more holistic information on individuals for criminals to use.
“The sheer amount of data available on the dark web was further amplified by consumers being at home and online during the MCO. It is imperative that our society as a whole begins to take this issue seriously and protects their finances, especially in such trying times as these. If offering CTOS SecureID for free for 60 days can help stem the tide of this growing problem, we are happy to do our part,” concluded Dennis Martin.
