The period before Hari Raya is a busy one, with many preparing their homes or getting ready to balik kampung, all in an effort to celebrate the festive season with their loved ones.

And with the reopening of international borders and ease of restrictions, many can welcome family members from overseas or even visit other families outside of Malaysia. Here are some tips to ease your burdens on travelling so you can focus on the important things — family.

Tip 1: Plan the trip

The nostalgia of bunking with your cousins and siblings on the floor just before the festivities will not be forgotten. No matter how great it was to stay up late and chat with each other in the room, it may not be advisable given the COVID-19 situation.

To give each families some breathing room, it may be best to arrange for hotels or AirB&B, especially for those travelling into Malaysia.

Be sure to check for the best rates on travel sites and book as soon as possible to ensure room availability particularly during the festivities.

Tip 2: Shop online

No Hari Raya celebration would be complete without new baju raya. It’s always fun to get new clothes but the hassle of going to shopping malls in current times could make things off-putting for many shoppers.

Online shopping solves these problems for everyone. It gives people the opportunity to purchase items that may not have been a popular option just a few years ago. Now, you can get the most trendy baju raya with a simple click of a button.

This tip doesn’t just apply to clothes. You can online shop for Raya snacks, cakes and decorations as well.

Tip 3: Budget your spending

This tip may seem obvious to many but people sometimes do not take account that things may happen which requires more money at the time. This may involve having more visitors asking for duit raya and it won’t be good to be unprepared.

Always set aside an amount for contingencies to prepare for things that could happen.

Wise: Your solution to your Raya woes

Getting a Wise card can help you achieve goals from the tips above.

A Wise account on the app offers you on-the-go transaction solutions for you to plan your trip or online shop. The card uses mid-market exchange rates for when you shop online with no foreign transaction fees.

You can track your spending with the app and you could even have more than 50 currencies held in the account. This should eliminate your worries on not having enough local currency wherever you go.

Check the Wise website here for more information.
