KUALA LUMPUR – uLearnMONEY, Hakim Academy Sdn Bhd, Money Compass Media and Max Capital Management organised a virtual soft launch event for the University Entrepreneurship Challenge (UNIEC) 2022 via Zoom and streamed on Facebook Live on April 5, 2022.
The soft launch was officiated by Dato’ Suriani binti Dato’ Ahmad, Secretary General of The Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives.
Speaking at the event, Ms Amy Seok, Organising Director & CEO of uLearnMONEY, said that the UNIEC 2022 is an exciting challenge especially for Malaysian university and college students to learn more about being a real-world entrepreneur.
“With the theme ‘Navigating and Unleashing the Potentials of Young, Aspiring Entrepreneurs’, the inaugurated UNIEC 2022 is a combination of 6 exciting activities specially organised to put students to the test so they can learn entrepreneurial skills,” she explained.
UNIEC 2022 is set to begin in April and end by the month of July, over the period of 4 months.
“The activities include business coaching workshops delivered by 14 renowned business coaches and entrepreneurs,” she added.
The collaborating business coaches are Mr KC See, Datuk Abdul Malik, Mr Haji Jamalludin, Mr Lucas Wong, Datuk Seri Edmund Heng, Mr Ray Ho, Mrs Sofia Leong Abdullah, Mr Nelson Beh, Dr Eric Ong, Mr Alvin Tan, Mr Kp Ng, Mr Roy Ong, Mr Marcus Hwang and Ms Amy Seok herself.
UNIEC 2022 is organised with the support of partners, EDM Resources Group, Goalmap, Quest Mastery Asia, BNI Malaysia together with the supporting associations, MyLIFE Association, Federation of Malaysian Business Associations (FMBA) and Junior Chamber International Malaysia (JCI Malaysia).
This challenge is a platform which will provide students the opportunities to hone their entrepreneurship skills and put their innovative ideas to the test in front of experts in the business field. This is the first time this challenge is organised.
The main objective of UNIEC 2022 is to expose undergraduates to the journey of being an entrepreneur. This challenge will guide and give them tools they can put to use in their own real-life journey to be entrepreneurs.
Gain experience money cannot buy
Kolonel Bersekutu (PA) Datuk Abdul Malik Abdullah, the COE of Hakim Academy Sdn Bhd & Chairman of Federation Malaysia Business Association (FMBA), said that UNIEC 2022 is to give a true-life experience of doing business.
During his welcoming speech, Datuk Abdul Malik said that the education system in many universities is focusing on theory and that the organisers appreciate the effort from the government.
“Today, we have confirmed more than 30 universities participation. Registration is still open and we would like to welcome more participation from government universities and private universities to join. I am thankful to my partners for organising such a programme,” he said
As one of the business coaches, Datuk Abdul Malik said that the coaches would try their best to guide the students and ensure participants learn from their past mistakes and provide the students the opportunity to expose themselves in this journey.
“We would also like to invite more institutional sponsors and SME sponsors to contribute cash and product sponsorships to UNIEC 2022, as your contribution will not only expose your branding and products to the young market, but also in the form of Strong Corporate Social Responsibility to inspire the youth to venture into entrepreneurship.” he added
Dato’ Suriani binti Dato’ Ahmad, Secretary General of The Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives stated that, “MEDAC strongly support this event, as one of our key roles & functions is to cultivating the Malaysian community especially the bumiputra, youth, women, B40, people with disabilities & the group marginalised with entrepreneurial values and minds.”
“We understand that many businesses are suffering financially due to the Covid-19 pandemic for the past 2 years. MEDAC wants to help the SMEs and assist them to grow digitally and recover their businesses faster. At the same time, we hope to create a holistic and conducive entrepreneurial ecosystem, to support the country’s inclusive, sustainable and knowledge driven, as well as innovative entrepreneurship development agenda,” she continued.
During his speech, Dato’ Dr. TPr. Mohd Yahya Nordin, Chairman of uLearnMONEY mentioned that “Business is a real competition and UNIEC 2022 is where you begin to learn the real business development cycle. I understand that the main objective of UNIEC 2022 is to expose undergraduates to the journey of being an entrepreneur. This challenge will guide and give them tools they can put to use in their own real-life journey to be entrepreneurs in future.”
Winning team gets RM10,000
The UNIEC 2022 participants will experience hands-on involvement with online and offline retail business, acquiring skills in developing business models, business plans, brand development, website, digital marketing, and retail marketing.
Participants also get the chance to win exciting awards and cash prizes worth more than RM10,000. The UNIEC 2022 judges consists of business coaches, digital marketing experts, business association advisors, and experienced entrepreneurs. The event will span over four months.
Registration is open from now until April 15, 2022. Students are required to form teams of 5 to 10 members and submit their details in this registration link here.
Each university can have a maximum of three (3) teams to participate. All student teams will go through activities with the business coaches and advisors over the course of 15 weeks. Activities will be online, offline and via social media. Announcement of winners will be on July 19, 2022.
