KUALA LUMPUR – The growing need for business to secure its trade secrets and Intellectual Property (IP) in an increasingly digital, post-Covid world prompted leading standards body, the Intellectual Property Commercialization Council (IIPCC), to organise its inaugural MyIPComm22 Conference.
The conference, held on May 27 this year at the Asian International Arbitration Centre, Kuala Lumpur, was a hybrid event that enabled more than 1,000 participants from Malaysia and other parts of the world to take part in this event.
The key focus of this ground-breaking conference is to raise awareness of IP as a key asset class for business growth and economic development, and to connect IP-rich companies with the financial support they need to expand their businesses.
During the conference, key figures and experts within the IP field discussed on various relevant topics such as Traditional and Non-Traditional IP Disputes, Fintech, Non-Fungible Tokens, the Metaverse, Artificial Intelligence, IP in the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) and current trends among others.
The keynote and panel speakers included:

Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs, Dato’ Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said, “We will move up the value chain with the strengthening of the IP ecosystem to attract high quality Foreign Direct Investments, as well as advanced technology transfer. With IIPCC Malaysia being the key player within this aspect, I’m sure the IP ecosystem will thrive and in return boost confidence and attract investments to enhance domestic trade in Malaysia.”
“With the right balance between interests of innovators and the broader public interest, the IP ecosystem can foster an environment in which creativity and innovation can flourish; the idea of transforming intangibles into economic tradable assets is becoming a true reality and accessible to everyone,” he added before officiating the conference.

Meanwhile, Well Kam, the National President of SAMENTA, stated, “Understanding Intellectual Property is important for any business now because the concept itself is a crucial part of our economic system; it tags an economic value to an intangible asset. Companies and organisations can leverage this concept to scale their businesses further and cement their positions within the industry. This conference will be the door that opens to opportunities in which we can harvest IP’s potential.”
The conference, organised under the banner of MyIPComm22 is supported by main stakeholders including the Small and Medium Enterprises Association (SAMENTA), the Malaysia Semiconductor Industry Association (MSIA) and Technology Depository Agency (TDA).
