KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Technology Development Corporation (MTDC) is dedicated to aiding small and medium businesses (SMEs) in their efforts to adapt to digitalisation in line with the most recent advances in technology.

According to Mohammad Hazani Hassan, the MTDC director of technological ventures, a number of different programmes were organised. One of these programmes, Road2Growth, offers opportunity for SMEs to grow their technology and their businesses.

He stated that affected small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), in particular those that were hit during the COVID-19 pandemic, were also encouraged to join in such programmes.

“Because so many of these businesses are labour-intensive and mostly based on manual processes, it might be challenging for them to break into the market.

At a media briefing on the MTDC Road2Growth programme that took place in Medini recently, he stated, “Therefore, through digitalisation, Fourth Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0), we can develop (with technology) such as Internet-of-Things and sensors to enhance productivity in manufacturing and certain programmes to reach the market faster.”

He added that Johar is the fourth target in the MTDC Road2Growth programme, following Sabah, Sarawak, and Penang.

Participants in this annual programme include SME business owners, recent graduates, researchers, and new ventures. According to Mohammad Hazani, the programme’s primary focus is on the opportunities for technological and commercial development that can be obtained through partnerships with the member companies of the MTDC ecosystem.

The participants were given the opportunity to learn in depth about the technological solutions offered by businesses operating in the fields of robotics, automation, 3D printing, augmented reality, and drone technology. In addition, they were presented with the products and services offered by MTDC and the members of its ecosystem.

“The participants were also made aware of various programmes concerning the incorporation of technology into their respective businesses.

“Graduates attending this programme can benefit from adapting to IR4.0 and digitalisation as this will enhance local talent and bring value to the quality of learning in the future,” he added. “Adapting to IR4.0 and digitalisation will develop local talent and contribute value to the quality of learning.”

In addition, participants have the chance to collaborate with the Centre of 9 Pillars (Co9P) in a hybrid fashion, the specifics of which are determined by the technology that is to be constructed.

According to what he had to say, “with this hub network (Co9P), small and medium-sized enterprise entrepreneurs have the ability to collaborate and develop business networks in order to improve existing solutions and technologies that can be implemented in their operations.”

In addition, he mentioned that MTDC is searching for business partners in order to carry out programmes with members of the Co9P communities that had been established in Kuala Lumpur, Sabah, Sarawak, Terengganu, and Johar.
