Yahoo Taiwan Finance unveils the results of its 2025 Investment Behavior Survey, highlighting three key trends.

Today, Yahoo Taiwan Finance, the top-ranked financial destination and a trusted platform for business decision-makers[1], released the results of its 2025 Investment Behavior Survey. Based on insights from nearly 9,000 internet users in Taiwan aged 18 and above, the study highlights three major trends:

  • Nearly 60% of respondents have adopted more conservative strategies in 2025, while Gen Z participation continues to climb.
  • ETFs have become the top choice for managing risk, and cryptocurrencies are gaining momentum as a rising asset class.
  • Despite market volatility, building savings and wealth remains a shared goal across all age groups, with AI-related investments maintaining strong appeal.

Investment Strategies Realign in 2025: ETFs Lead as Top Hedge, Crypto Rises, and Three Key Sectors Lead the Market

Investor sentiment has grown more cautious following the announcement of renewed tariff measures, with nearly 60% of respondents shifting toward conservative strategies-marking a notable increase in risk aversion compared to 2024[2]. Still, 49% remain confident in the outlook for Taiwan’s stock market over the coming year.

Saving and wealth accumulation remains the top goal (62%), followed by long-term income generation (48%) and retirement planning (38%). Nearly 80% of investors now prefer systematic investing (39%) and buying on dips (39%) to mitigate risk and enhance dividend strategies. ETFs have become the most planned asset class to increase at 36%, overtaking stocks at 28% to become the preferred hedging tool.

Investment preferences vary by strategy. Aggressive investors still favor stocks (29%) and ETFs (28%), with close to 10% planning to grow their crypto holdings. Popular themes include AI concept stocks (31%) and US equities and bonds (30%). Meanwhile, conservative investors are leaning toward ETFs (nearly 40%) and stocks (around 30%). Across all segments, high-dividend ETFs, AI-related stocks, and market-cap ETFs have emerged as the three most favored asset classes.

Gen Z Defies Market Caution with Diverse Strategies, Guided by Parents into Stocks, ETFs, and Crypto

While overall sentiment has grown more cautious, Gen Z is moving in the opposite direction and remains a standout in the survey. Participation rose 7% from last year, surpassing 60%. Their top goals are saving and wealth accumulation at 62% and generating long-term income at 39%. Short-term gains now rank third, reflecting a growing drive to build additional income as living costs rise and wage growth remains modest.

Many Gen Z investors began their financial journey to earn extra income (50%) or invest alongside family (44%), influenced heavily by their Gen X parents. Although still early in their investment experience, over 60% rely on advice from parents and peers, followed by financial platforms and brokerage apps (45%).

This generation is also embracing diversification. Their portfolios span across stocks (49%), ETFs (41%), insurance (30%), and crypto assets (14%), showing a broad-based approach to navigating market uncertainty.
