SHENZHEN, China, Oct. 16, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — MINISFORUM today announced the S5, a fanless 5-bay all-flash Agent NAS. Powered by the Intel® Core™ 3 304 processor, the S5 features 5 cores and a maximum clock speed of 4.3 GHz. It supports five M.2 NVMe SSDs for up to 40 TB of storage and is equipped with one 10GbE and one 2.5GbE LAN port with Wi-Fi and dual USB4 ports with speeds of up to 40 Gbps. By combining all-flash storage with fanless passive cooling, the S5 brings high-speed storage, quiet operation and low power consumption together in a compact chassis. It also supports an edge-cloud collaborative Agent architecture for always-on local Agent execution.
MINISFORUM AI NAS S5
All-Flash Storage Breaks Through the Speed Limitations of Mechanical Hard Drives
Compared with traditional HDDs, the S5 delivers up to 6x faster sequential read speeds and up to 100x faster random read speeds. For 4K/8K video projects, RAW photo libraries and large creative assets, higher read performance helps reduce waiting time when importing, browsing and accessing files. All-flash storage is also well suited to creative workflows that require frequent access to large project files.
Fanless Passive Cooling for Quiet Operation and Low Power Consumption
The S5 features a fanless design, using a heat pipe and cooling fins for passive cooling without the need for system fans. Its all-flash architecture also eliminates the mechanical noise generated by traditional hard drives, reducing operating noise from both fans and mechanical drives.
According to MINISFORUM laboratory testing at an ambient temperature of 25°C under combined stress, the S5 sustained approximately 15W of CPU power, balancing sustained performance and energy efficiency under fanless passive cooling.
Edge-Cloud Collaboration: In-Depth Decision-Making in the Cloud, 24/7 Response from the Local Agent
The S5 innovatively adopts an edge-cloud collaborative AI architecture: large models in the cloud act as the “strategic brain,” responsible for understanding, reasoning about and making decisions on complex instructions; the local AI agent resides within the S5 as a “private digital employee” on standby 24/7. Even when users’ PCs are powered off and they are away from their desks, background task flows and automated data processing continue to run smoothly, achieving seamless coordination between cloud capabilities and local execution.
To support the stable, always-on residency of the local agent and millisecond-level response, the S5’s built-in dedicated NPU provides 15 TOPS (INT8) of on-device AI computing power. This enables the S5 to effortlessly support the always-on wake-up, semantic retrieval and local data scheduling of edge-side agents at ultra-low power consumption, delivering a private agent experience.
From Creative Work to Home Entertainment
For small studios and creative teams, the S5 combines all-flash storage with 10GbE high-speed networking and can serve as compact shared storage, enabling fast access to and sharing of project files, assets and deliverables across multiple devices. Its fanless design also allows it to be deployed directly in creative workspaces with less noise disruption.
For home entertainment, the S5 can store 4K media, lossless music, family videos and personal media libraries while providing fast content access with quieter operation.
With all-flash high-speed storage, fanless passive cooling, low power consumption, edge-cloud collaborative Agent capabilities and a compact chassis, the S5 balances storage performance, intelligent experience and quiet operation while further expanding MINISFORUM’s NAS portfolio for a wider range of storage needs.
The S5 is now available for purchase, offered in two configurations:
- 12GB LPDDR5x + 128GB UFS + 0TB: Originally $749, now 20% off at just $599, ships immediately.
- 12GB LPDDR5x + 128GB UFS + 20TB: Originally $4,699, now 20% off at just $3,759, estimated to ship in early November.
