TAIPEI, March 27, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — The 2025 Asia-Pacific Association for International Education (APAIE) Conference began on March 24 in Delhi, India and will run through March 28. Taiwan’s delegation, organized by the Foundation for International Cooperation in Higher Education of Taiwan (FICHET), is led by FICHET Chairperson and Distinguished Prof. Cheng-Chih Wu, and includes 44 representatives from 15 Taiwan universities. The delegation seeks to highlight Taiwan’s strengths as a technology hub and to attract more international talent to study in Taiwan. Representative H.E. Baushuan Ger of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in India, along with Assistant Representative Jen Chun Tsai, Director of the Education Division Peters Li Ying Chen, and Manager Teresa Weng of the Taipei Trade Center Liaison Office in New Delhi, extend their greetings to the representatives and assist in expanding opportunities for academic and research cooperation.

On the Conference’s opening day, APAIE President Prof. Venky Shankararaman and Executive Director Ms. Louise Kinnaird visited the Taiwan’s delegation, meeting Chairperson Wu and joining the Taiwan delegation for a group photo. Chairperson Wu highlighted FICHET’s role as a key platform for Taiwan’s international higher education collaboration. Given India’s deep engineering and technology talent, Taiwan prioritizes creating synergies between India’s talent pools and Taiwan’s strength in semiconductors, ICT, and biotechnology, focusing on industry-academia partnerships and academic exchanges.

To further deepen higher education cooperation between Taiwan and India, nearly 70 university leaders from Taiwan and India will attend the “2025 Taiwan-India Higher Education Leaders Forum” on March 26 at the India Habitat Centre in Delhi. In 2010, FICHET and Association of Indian Universities (AIU) signed the first MOU to enhance academic exchange and partnership, and agreement now entering its third renewal period. The forum will focus on semiconductor technology and SDGs cooperation, with Representative Ger from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in India attending to witness the continued strengthening of Taiwan–India educational collaboration.

According to Taiwan’s Ministry of Education, over 100,000 students from the Asia-Pacific region studied in Taiwan in 2024, accounting for 87% of all international students, with over 2,500 coming from India each year. Through its recruitment and retention programs for international students, Taiwan promotes educational exchanges and talent mobility across the Asia-Pacific, aiming to strengthen multilateral collaborations, attract more international students, and address the talent needs of Taiwan’s industries.
