HONG KONG, Nov. 5, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Tencent joined Hong Kong FinTech Week x StartmeupHK 2026, sharing how it is deepening global payment interoperability and applying AI across financial services through product showcases and executive panels.
Tencent has opened its Weixin Pay ecosystem and connected more than 60 overseas wallets from 16 countries and regions to facilitate international visitors’ experiences in China, meanwhile deepening collaboration with global card networks, banks, remittance institutions and cross-border e-commerce platforms. At the event, it also highlighted progress in AI-powered risk control, investment research and agentic finance.
Forest Lin, Corporate Vice President of Tencent and Head of Tencent Financial Technology, discussed how Tencent uses data and AI to fight fraud and create value for users. “We are the first in China to propose a payment ontology model, and run it on one of the largest payment networks,” Lin said, adding that the ontology model is like a smart map of the payment world, which automatically detects the abnormal traffic. It cuts the time to identify new scam patterns from weeks to days or hours, while reducing distractions for genuine users.

“The real value of AI is to do the work proactively for you,” he said, pointing to RENA (short for “Read Everything, Notice Alpha”), a new AI research agent for investors. RENA proactively gathers and analyses information centered on a user’s specific portfolio to help them identify opportunities in a more timely manner, while ensuring that the final judgment and decision-making always remain in the hands of the user.
Royal Chen, Vice President of Tencent Financial Technology, shared his view on building an open and inclusive payment network to unlock infinite potential. “There is still a long way to go to achieve zero friction in cross-border payment, and no single network can solve these challenges alone,” said Chen. “By working with global payment partners and local service platforms, we want to make it easier for international users to come in, and for Chinese users and merchants to go global.”

During Hong Kong FinTech Week 2026, TenPay Global, Tencent’s cross-border payment platform, signed separate memoranda of understanding (MOUs) with Mastercard and UnionPay International, following a recent MOU between Tencent and Visa, further deepening its partnerships with global card networks in cross-border payments and jointly exploring agentic commerce.
Daniel Hong, Vice President of Tencent Financial Technology, outlined Tencent’s vision of a truly borderless network linking financial institutions worldwide. He highlighted that overseas wallets connect through TenPay Global using a single set of standard APIs, with zero changes required from merchants. “Scanning to pay is just the starting point,” said Hong. “Shared infrastructure goes far beyond payment interoperability. It’s about service interoperability. Looking ahead, we hope to co-create this infrastructure with overseas partners in new markets and unlock the potential of agentic commerce.”

Through its new “Pay in China Version 2.0” feature, TenPay Global has extended its collaboration with overseas wallets beyond payments to digital lifestyle services in the Chinese mainland. International visitors can now order meals in-store, hail rides, and book flight and train tickets directly inside their home wallet apps. Vietnam’s MoMo saw average daily transactions rise by 290% after rolling out the feature to users travelling to China.
The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) launched Project SAGE (Securing Agentic Finance with Governance and Enablement) and established the Agentic Finance Expert Group during Hong Kong FinTech Week, with WeChat Pay HK and Tencent Cloud selected as members. Both will work with the HKMA and industry stakeholders on standards and governance for agentic finance, supporting its responsible development and adoption in Hong Kong.
Tencent Cloud, which serves more than 10,000 financial institution customers worldwide, showcased a range of solutions, including the international version of WorkBuddy, eKYC, Tencent Cloud Risk Control Solutions, Tencent Marketing Cloud and its global AI infrastructure network. WorkBuddy introduced new investment research capabilities covering company research, portfolio assessments and stock screening.
“Common standards and protocols can help reduce duplicate integration efforts and mitigate risks associated with interactions between systems, providing a critical foundation for the large-scale adoption of Agentic Finance,” said Liming Hu, Vice President of Tencent Cloud. “We look forward to bringing WorkBuddy’s practical experience in financial services into industry discussions and contributing to the development of Hong Kong’s Agentic Finance ecosystem and related standards.”
